Born Mahase Doctor Sibane, Msoko Lara is a multifaceted artist hailing from the mountainous kingdom of Lesotho. Currently residing in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, South Africa, he has carved a niche for himself as both a musician and an actor. His artistic journey began in his formative years, deeply influenced by traditional Basotho music genres such as Famo and Maskandi. These cultural roots laid the foundation for his creative expression, which initially manifested through poetry. During his high school years, Msoko Lara transitioned into hip hop, co-founding the music group Lingaka Tsa Ts’epe, a name that reflects his cultural heritage. After completing his matriculation, Msoko Lara faced significant challenges in pursuing his music career due to limited resources. Demonstrating resilience and ingenuity, he relied on his street smarts to navigate these obstacles, eventually saving enough money to purchase studio equipment. This pivotal moment enabled him to record his debut track, "Bambelela," which was released under the Maluti Music label in December 2020. The song was part of his first EP, Thibeletsa, which showcased his unique blend of traditional and contemporary sounds. Under the guidance of Maluti Music, Msoko Lara collaborated with industry veterans such as Bosco Afreeca and the acclaimed multi-award-winning producer Sthembiso Twala. Their expertise played a crucial role in refining his musical style and production quality. In late 2021, amidst the global upheaval caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Msoko Lara relocated to Vosloorus. This move marked a new chapter in his career as he embraced the burgeoning Amapiano genre, a South African musical movement characterized by its fusion of deep house, jazz, and kwaito elements. Msoko Lara became an ambassador for contemporary Sesotho sounds, integrating traditional African scales into Amapiano. His collaborations with renowned artists and producers such as Lunsta Fame, Weza, T-Man SA, and Khobzn Kiavalla not only solidified his presence in the genre but also allowed him to innovate and expand its sonic boundaries. In 2024, Msoko Lara's versatility extended to acting when his work on the Lesotho-based mini-series Sneiman caught the attention of Kasinema Production, a Vosloorus-based production house. Recognizing his talent, they cast him as Lekoeba, a compelling character who embodies the role of a powerful traditional doctor from Lesotho. This role further highlighted Msoko Lara's ability to bridge cultural narratives through his artistic endeavors.
